横浜/Arrival at Yokohama
9：00予定の入港は悪天候のため5時間遅れて午後2：00となる。
神戸で下船の方たちが７階のプロムナードデッキに並んでお見送りをしてくれる。胸がつんとする。
The initial schedule of arrival at Yokohama was 9:00 but it was delayed by 5 hours. My friend passengers going up to Kobe were on the promenade deck to see us off. That was so moving.
このクルーズを支えてくださった全ての方々に心から御礼申し上げます。
末永船長はじめ各部門のスタッフの方々、松平ご夫妻、毎日の食事を明るい笑顔と抜群のサービスで支えてくれたフィリピン人ウエーターの方たち、キャビンスチュワーデスのレア、心優しいクルーズ友だち、講師の先生方、パームコートの可愛い東欧のお嬢さんたち、資生堂のスタッフの皆様、ドクター・江連、フォｯト・スタジオの皆様・・・・・・まだまだ沢山の方に大変お世話になりました。また、留守中、仕事や家や庭を気遣ってくれた近しい方たちにも、感謝の気持ちがこみあげてきます。私のクルーズの思い出すべてが、皆様の支えの上に載っています。感謝してもしきれるものではありませんが、有難うございました。
また、ブログの友人の皆様、整理の行き届かない記事にもかかわらずご訪問いただいて有難うございます。皆様のご訪問や温かいコメントに励まされて、横浜帰港までまがりなりにもたどり着くことが出来ました。まだまだ沢山の写真や体験が掲載しきれずに眠っていますがまた折々に触れさせてもらおうと思っています。

12日のフォーマル・デイはキャプテン主催の｢フェアウェル・パーティ」でもあったが、海は荒れに荒れて船は台風並みの低気圧に沿っている。今日も本格的に荷造りはする意志はあるものの、風速は20ｍを時に超え、揺れも尋常ではない。酔い止めを服用し辛うじて、手元のものをスーツケースや段ボール箱に放り込んでゆく。
体は不調。荷造りを中断し、私の駆け込み寺｢資生堂サロン」に昨日と同じように助けを求める。水音の心地いい個室のミストサウナのあと、全身をほぐしてもらい、心地良い眠りに導入してもらう。昨夜は風雨と激しい波の音でうとうとしただけだったので、わずかな深い眠りが元気を取り戻させてくれた。
(この記事をお読みの皆様、こんな日はこの船に200日ほど乗って初めての経験であることを付け加えておきます。）
帰国後聞けば、強烈な春の嵐が日本列島を駆け抜けたとのこと。
Last night, Captain's Farewell Party was held as the last formal occasion. But the sea was more than rough and the ship had been in the center of a low pressure area. I did have an intention to pack things, but the wind was sometimes over 20 m, and the rocking was just abnormal. After taking motion preventives, I barely managed to throw things in my suitcases and cardboard boxes.
I finally could not keep packing up any longer. I suspended it and took refuge in Shiseido Salon as yesterday. Took a mist sauna of the nice sound of a fountain all to myself, and a hand massage on the whole body. That induced me to a comfortable deep sleep. I had hardly slept the night before due to the sounds of rough waves and winds plus rocking and rolling of the ship. The short but deep sleep here made me feel so refreshed that I could go back to my packing.
(I must add that the rough sea as this is very rare, the first experience in my more than 200-day cruise history with ASUKA II)
After going back home, they said the very strong spring storm had run up through the Japan Archipelago.

最終区間の船内の様子/Atmosphere of the ship life in the last section of the cruise
既にレセプションで梱包用品の販売が行われていて、なんとなく荷物をまとめねばならない雰囲気が漂い始めている。12日の最後のフォーマルナイトが終わったら一気に片付けようと、船内生活を楽しむことに時間をふり向けている人もいる。
私はといえば、せっかちなパートナー、のんびり屋の私のコンビでなんとなくどうにかなるだろうと思いながらも、揺れる船をすこし恨めしく思っている。

Since March 1, they have been selling packing goods, and we often see people carrying cardboard boxes to their cabin these days. "Must pack" air is here and there. But on the other hand, there are passengers who think it all right that they pack at one go after the 12 th, the final formal night when we need a tuxedo and an evening gown.
When it comes to me, I am one of the "at-one-go" party. Besides, my partner is the type of person to organize things and proceed them step by step. So I optimistically think we will finish packing before we reach Yokohama sooner or later. But please, somebody, stop rocking the boat while we are packing!
船内イベントプログラムはいつものように盛りだくさん。クルーズの終わる気配など微塵もない。
8日にはトロピカル縁日で綿菓子を3個も食し、パートナーは金魚すくいならぬボールすくいで7個もすくって、主催者をうならせる。その夜は和太鼓のＡＵＮコンサート、高本一郎さんのリュートコンサートと素晴らしい音色を楽しむ。こんな風に楽しい時間を乗せて・・・船は揺れに揺れている。
その揺れの中で、ずっとお世話になってきたソシアル・ダンスの先生のデモンストレーション。ASUKA IIのロングクルーズの先生方は、すごい人たち。大勢の受講生に一定期間でスタンダードもラテンも踊れるように教え込んでしまう。
A day program of the ship is full of a variety of events as usual as if the cruise would never end.
On the 8 th, the Tropical Fair was held. Enjoyed the Japanese traditional games and cotton candy, too. My partner scooped up as many small balls on the water as seven with a paper spoon and was the champ of the game.
In the evening, they gave a concert of the Japanese drum by AUN, duet of twin brothers. Late in the evening at the lounge, there was Mr. Ichiro Takamoto's elegant Lute Concert. The ship kept rocking and rolling with such nice time in it.
Despite this much rocking, our ballroom dance instructors' demonstration stage was shown late in the evening. The dance instructors of the ASUKA II long cruises are always terrific. They are the people who can instill dancing even in the beginner passengers in a very short period from standard to Latin.

BROWN BOOBIES
早朝日付変更線を東から西に越えたので、2009年3月9日は永久に失われ、太平洋底深く沈んでしまった。
Early this morning, we lost one day by passing the Internationa Date Line from east to west. Our March 9th 2009 has sunk deep in the Pacific Ocean.
ホノルルを経つとブラウン･プービー(カツオドリ)の姿を必ず目にする。その飛翔の美しさ、ハンティングの見事なテクニックに、いつも目を奪われる。今回は一家族が舳先のマストにしばらく滞在し、親鳥が子供たちをトレーニングする様を日々眺めるチャンスに恵まれた。
Right after Honolulu, we always see brown boobies over the Ocean. The beauty of their flight and the accurate technique of hunting are fascinating. I was lucky enough to see one brown booby's family staying on the mast of the bow for several days and the parents training their two children.

太平洋の日の出/Pacific Sunrise:
船は今日も揺れがきつい。 横浜へ向けて, クルーズの最終区間。
ホノルルを出港すると同時に一日一日がより大切なものに思えてくる。新しいお知り合い。このクルーズで再会したお知り合い。同じ船に乗り合わせたということから、思いがけない楽しい時を分かち合ったこの方たちとの残された時間、日々が手のひらからこぼれてしまうのがもったいなくて、ついつい心が濃厚になってゆく。
そんな感傷をひっさげて、最上階のﾃﾞｯｷに上がる。朝の光の中にカツオドリが舞っている。
The sea is rough and rocking our ship, trying to push us homeward to Yokohama.
Right after departing from Honolulu, the clicks of time and day starts getting louder in me. I know the precious time I can share with my new aquatintances this time and ex-cruise friends is reducing second by second, minute by munute...day by day. Overflowing sentiment of that kind makes me more fragile at heart.
To hide my fragility, I go up to the top deck of the ship early in the morning. Then, a brown booby is hunting for its breakfast in the divine morning lights.

昨日などは風が時に20メートルと尋常ではない。船は揺れに揺れてプールの水も抜かれている。ところが、早朝マウイ島の島影にくると、急に風はおさまり静かな航行となる。
今日は雛祭り。11階にも５階にもお雛様が飾られている。
The Ship had been rocking due to the very strong east wind of 20 m. They even emptied the swimming pool. But early this morning, the wind weakened all of a sudden when our ship went into the area off the west of Maui Island.
March 3rd is the Japanese Dolls' Festival for Girls. They put a pair of traditional dolls on the 11th floor as well as the 5th.

マウイはいつもワイレアに来て、ずっとそこを動かず過ごすのでラハイナまで足を伸ばしたことはない。ラハイナはどんな町だろう。
In Maui Island, I always go straightforwardly to Wailea from Kahului Airport and stay put there all through the vacation. So this is my first visit to Lahaina.

ウクレレ教室、フラ教室合同卒業リサイタル
Ukulele Class & Hula Class Joint Graduation Recital
素晴らしく楽しいインストラクターの元でウクレレとフラのふたつの教室に参加してきた。
クルーズディレクターのボブのウクレレ伝授法はちょっと名状しがたい。実に楽しく、あっという間に数曲を楽しむまでにウクレレを操る術を、高齢の乗客相手に教え込んでしまうのだ。合間にはハワイ語まで教えてしまう。私も例外ではない。一度以前のクルーズで卒業証書をゲットしているのに、もう一枚欲しくて今回も毎午後クラスに参加してきた。私という人間には恥ずかしながらそういうところがある。
フラクラスは今回タヒチの島々に毎日寄港していたので回数は少なかったが、今回も楽しんだ。フラ・ハラウ･オラナのナタリーからレッスンを受けるのは2回目。とても素晴らしいフラ・ダンサーを育てている。
We had been practicing Ukulele and Hula under the excellent instructors.
Our Cruise Director Bob Tanaka's ukulele teaching method is really astounding. Beginners can enjoy playing some songs after a few lessons. I am not exception. I gained one graduation certificate in the past long cruise, but I wanted another one on this cruise. That motivated me to go to the class every afternoon. I must confess that I am such a mediocre person.
Hula Class did not have many lessons due to island-hopping day after day in Tahiti. But I enjoyed it this time, too. This is the second time I learn hula from Leslie of Hula Halau Orana.
舞台衣装はヌクヒバで購入したパレオ I wore a pareo I bought at Nuku Hiva for the stage.
ボブは舞台の生徒から見えるところに立って(但し、客席からは見えない）コードを書いた大きなカードを音楽にあわせてかざしてくれる。

ASUKA II 就航3周年記念日/ASUKA II's 3rd Anniversary of its inauguration.
船はヌクヒバを出港してから、マウイ島ラハイナにむけて航行している。再び東の風、貿易風、が強く海はうねっている。ラハイナまでまる4日のクルーズとなる。
今日はASUKA II 就航3周年記念日なのでインフォーマルの夕食前にお祝いの特別なアペリティフ・タイムがもうけられた。またディナーの前には乾杯とキャプテンの挨拶があり、皆でこの日を祝った。
夕食のテーブルでは、荒俣宏先生ご夫妻とご一緒させていただいた。荒俣先生もパペーテから乗船され、すでに大変興味深い講演を拝聴している。
夕食後は、荒俣先生が6階通路の一箇所でタップのようなことをしきりとなさり、これは「鳴き龍現象」とおっしゃるものだから、みなで楽しくタップダンスのようなことをしてそれを確かめる。いつもここを通るたび無意識にヒールの音に気をつけるようにしているくせに、その科学的な「なぜ」をこんなふうに興味を持って分析してみたことがない。そこが、スーパーな人と凡人の差になってくるのだと反省。荒俣先生の膨大な量の知識は、そこにとどまらず独自のシナプスでひとつが複合的に他と繋がっていることだ。だから講演も超面白い。ここから始まった話から遠い遠い意外な彼方まで連れていってもらいはっとする。
The Ship is cruising for Lahaina, Maui, after leaving Nuku Hiva. Again the east wind, what we call a trade wind, is very strong and the sea has swells. We shall have four full days of cruise before Lahaina.
There was an informal dinner today after special Aperitif Time to celebrate AUSKA II's 3rd Anniversary since its inauguration. Before dinner, our Captain made a touching speech. At dinner, we, my partner and I, had an honour to share the table with Mr. & Mrs. Hiroshi Aramata, a well-known naturalist and author of many books.
On top of that, we tapdanced at the hallway of the 6th floor after dinner, as Mr. Aramata told us that at one spot of the hallway, there was an echo phenomenon.
We call it a dragon cry phenomenon in Japan. On the ceiling of some temples, they have a huge dragon painted with a secret device to cause echo when whorshippers clap hands.
We repeatedly tapped the floor to hear the echoes. Mr. Aramata is a man of curiosity. What is amazing is not only his vast knowledge, but one knowledge clasters with others with his own unique synapses, to create an interesting theory.
